Researchers from Illinois State
University are conducting a study on the cultural adjustment among the Indian Community within the United States. This study is
under the direction of Dr. John Baldwin, School of Communication, a
specialist in intercultural communication, who has done other research
on diversity and cultural transitions. He is working with Ms. Alyssa
Oxford, a graduate student in Communication.
This announcement is
to invite you to participate in this study. Your participation is totally voluntary. Further rights and
contact information are on the link (if you click on the link and
decide not to participate, you can stop at any time. You will remain
anonymous: we keep no record of your contact.
We feel that the study is very important, as it
will help us to better understand individuals from other cultures. We
will be glad to take the results to any group, or to share our findings
with anyone interested.
Goal: This study seeks to investigate
different aspects of the adaptation process: happiness, adapting, and
getting around in a new culture, as well as people's awareness of
aspects of culture.
Outcome: The findings should have strong implications for employers and members of the Indian community.
Time line: Data collection (15 minutes of online survey) for this effort ends by Friday, March 20th, 2009
