'MATA KI CHOWKI is a form of prayer offered to goddess in northern part of India. Mata Chowki is dedicated to singing 'Bhents' (bhajans), praising the Divine Mother (Mata/ Maa), who is represented in many forms like Vaishno Maa, Santoshi Maa, Durga Maa, Kaali Maa, Ambe Maa, Saraswati Maa & Lakshmi Maa. Devotees worship Mata by jointly singing Kirtans and Bhajans in her praise. This type of worship or devotion is called Chowki or Jaagran. The duration of a Chowki is usually two to four hours, whereas a Jaagran is all night while sitting in the presence of the Divine Mother (Mata).
