Event Details HELP SAVE A LIFE - BE A BONE MARROW DONOR BONE MARROW DONATION REGISTRATION DRIVE Islamic Center of Bloomington/Normal is hosting a bone marrow donation registration drive on Thursday, March 3rd. Volunteers will be on site to assist anyone willing to be registered on the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program) registry. We are holding a drive at ICBN, in the hopes of adding our names to this potentially lifesaving list. The procedure is simple with 3 steps. 1. Read/ watch information regarding having your name on the national bone marrow donor registry. 2. Complete a 3 sided form that asks for either your social security number or a drivers license number and 1-2 contact persons. 3. Swab the inside of your mouth with a cotton swab yourself. After which the envelope is checked and sealed by the volunteers. If and when you are preliminarily matched, a blood sample will be taken to confirm. Then you may be required to travel, all expenses are paid, to either give blood from your arm, (peripheral donation: useful cells are removed and the blood given back to you at the same time), or liquid bone marrow may be removed from your hip and used. Both of these areas are continuously regenerating areas. It is really not a painful procedure. I hope you, your family and friends will strongly consider being a part of this noble cause. Please feel free to email with any questions or concerns. Samina Yousuf, M.D. theyousufs@gmail.com Useful websites: www.curebilal.org www.marrow.org www.facebook.com/curebilal
